Beautifully sculpted from Water Buffalo Bone Resin. "Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil" is unknown in its origin. This proverb is represented by three monkeys covering their eyes, ears, and mouth. They portray the Santi (Three Truths) of the Tendi Sect of Buddhism. During the period of 1333-1568, it was customary to carve these figures on stone pillars during the observance of Koshin. The three monkeys are also carved on the door of the Sacred Stable in Japan. This beautiful set of 3 are carved from Water Buffalo horns and resin, The color and feel is very pleasing to the senses. I use them as bookends for my pulp paperbacks.
