Exquisite Life Like Wooden Indian At A Fraction of Appraised Value.
This is an amazing work of art, hand carved with very intricate detail. This unique sculpture is masterfully crafted by hand from Chamjuri wood. The wood is also kiln dried in a huge oven to prevent cracking. The pictures do not do justice to the rich color and intricate carving. Unlike other wooden Indians you may have seen, this one looks very realistic. During the 19th century, tobacconists to attract patrons into their stores frequently displayed carved wooden Indians. Until recently, a great mystery surrounded the History and Origin of Cigar Store Indian, Wooden Indians, Shop Figures and Wood Statues that are a part of American folk sculpture. Weight is about 200 lbs.
